Ryan McGinley for Pringle of Scotland
Directed by Ryan McGinley, Starring Tilda Swinton
Installed as part of the exhibition, Syn/Aesthesia at the Fashion Festival this film follows a nameless female protagonist played by award winning actress Tilda Swinton on a sensual journey as she moves through the various Scottish landscapes to her hometown of Nairn.
Along with the references to the landscape heritage of Scotland, the film draws inspiration from the publication ‘Notes sur le Cinématographe’ by minimalist French filmmaker Robert Bresson, published in 1975. One of the most idiosyncratic and uncompromising filmmakers of our times Bresson’s work proved to be one of many source of influence and inspiration shared by both Swinton and McGinley.
